About the Artist
Rory Shamlian is the vision behind Rory Pots, a ceramic lighting studio where craft, design, and sculpture collide. Founded in 2019, Rory Pots is the product of her deep-rooted obsession with form, materiality, and the nuances of light.
With a background in ceramic arts and years spent restoring vintage fixtures, Rory’s work is shaped by an innate understanding of both sculptural presence and technical function. As a lighting technician, she worked hands-on with pieces from every design era—Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian, Japandi, Art Deco—absorbing their proportions, materials, and construction. This constant exposure to iconic design sharpened her instincts and cemented her passion for lighting as an artistic medium.
At Rory Pots, she blends wheel-throwing, slab-building, and hand-sculpting techniques to create striking, sculptural lighting. Each piece is an exploration of form and surface, balancing raw tactility with refined silhouettes. From table lamps and pendants to sconces and chandeliers, her work carries a distinct, sculptural presence—grounded in craft yet undeniably modern.
Rory takes pride in running a nimble, adaptive studio—one that thrives on collaboration and creative problem-solving. Whether working with interior designers on custom commissions or refining signature collections, she embraces the fluidity of the process, tailoring each piece to the space it inhabits. Some of the most compelling work at Rory Pots emerges from this dynamic exchange between maker and client.
Her designs have been featured in Dwell Magazine, Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, and specified by top designers, including Bobby Berk.
